Delivery staff very rude.

We got scammed by the staff here on 1 March 2026. We were looking to buy Calmex Abalone as a gift and it was our first time purchasing it. Since the shop is located at MBS, we assumed it would be a trustworthy place to buy premium products. As many buyers know, Calmex abalone comes in different grades, depending on whether the can contains one whole large abalone or smaller pieces (e.g. 1+1 pieces), and the prices differ significantly. Before purchasing, we explicitly asked the two staff members if the cans contained one large whole abalone, which was what we were specifically looking for. They repeatedly assured us that it was the version with one whole piece, and the listing price seemed in line with that ($248). Because we were new to Calmex, I asked how we could tell the difference since the cans all looked identical. One of the staff pointed to the “1 lb” label on the front of the can and claimed it meant one abalone piece, which I found to be very shifty as it was simply the weight. They also offered a 25% discount, bringing the price from $248 down to about $186 per can, which seemed reasonable. However, when we paid, the receipt showed a different price structure: Original price: $198 / Discount: 10% / Final price: $178.20 When we asked about this discrepancy, the staff told us to ignore the receipt because it was “just for accounting purposes” and reassured us again that the cans contained one whole abalone. A few days later, we visited another brand provision shop in Chinatown, where the shop owner kindly explained how to check the contents. The code printed on the bottom of the can reveals the packing format: “01” = one whole abalone “11” = two pieces (1+1) We immediately went home to check the cans we bought from Dragon Brand MBS shop and discovered the code “11”, confirming that the cans contained two pieces instead of one whole abalone, contrary to what we were told. We returned to the shop on 7 March (less than 7 days since purchase) to clarify the issue. The staff on duty, including one of the younger ladies, quickly acknowledged the situation and apologised, saying there was nothing they could do. They also admitted that the shop and all their outlets had never carried the one-piece version at all. What was even more concerning was that the price label on the shelf had already been changed with handwritten marker to reflect the 1+1 version, which strongly suggests they knew the earlier information provided to us was incorrect. Overall, this was a very disappointing experience. We felt that the product was misrepresented and the pricing explanation was misleading. When buying Calmex Abalone, buyers should be careful and check the codes on the bottom of the cans before purchasing. And avoid this Dragon Brand as they are really untrustworthy...
