Orchid Extravaganza 2026: Rhythm of the Rainforest Celebrates Indonesia at Gardens by the Bay

The Flower Dome at Gardens by the Bay has been transformed into a vibrant tribute to the Indonesian archipelago for this year's Orchid Extravaganza: Rhythm of the Rainforest. Running from 3 July to 10 August 2026, the floral display spotlights the rich heritage and diversity across seven regions of Indonesia through more than 7,000 orchids, woven artworks and architectural recreations.

A Partnership With Indonesia

Orchid Extravaganza 2026 is presented in partnership with the Ministry of Creative Economy of Indonesia and the Embassy of the Republic of Indonesia in Singapore, with support from MASA. Gardens by the Bay CEO Felix Loh described the display as an invitation to journey through the archipelago's craft traditions, symbolism and biodiversity, all rendered in living bloom.

Striking woven artworks and larger-than-life sculptural pieces using the traditional anyaman weaving technique, made with coconut leaves and bamboo, anchor the display. Nine such sculptures were handcrafted by 27 Balinese artisans over more than 900 hours, each depicting Indonesia's wildlife, folklore and cultural icons.

Architectural Recreations

Visitors step through a recreation of a candi bentar split gateway, traditionally used to mark the transition into a sacred space. Beyond it rise replicas of multi-tiered Balinese Meru towers, the tiered shrines central to Balinese temple architecture, and a recreation of the uma mbatangu, the traditional Sumbanese peaked house whose tall central tower signifies a prominent ancestral lineage.

Cultural motifs thread through the display, including bold Toba Batak patterns and intricate ikat designs that reflect the stories, beliefs and craftsmanship across the Indonesian archipelago.

Orchids to Look Out For

  • Moon orchid (Phalaenopsis amabilis), one of Indonesia's three national flowers, with elegant sprays of broad white blooms and soft yellow centres.
  • Deer-horned orchid (Phalaenopsis cornu-cervi), named for its antler-shaped flower stalks, with star-shaped flowers streaked in yellow-green and chestnut.
  • Tiger orchid (Grammatophyllum speciosum), the world's largest orchid species, with flower spikes exceeding two metres bearing hundreds of tawny yellow blooms.
  • Ground orchid (Spathoglottis plicata), produces vibrant magenta blooms and was among the first plants to recolonise Krakatau after its 1883 eruption.

Win Return Flights to Bali

Visitors can scan QR codes within the Flower Dome and answer a simple question for a chance to win a pair of economy-class return tickets from Singapore to Bali with Garuda Indonesia. Eight pairs of tickets are up for grabs across the run of the exhibition.

Cultural Programmes

On 4 July and 25-26 July 2026, the Orchid Extravaganza Cultural Programmes bring Indonesia's living heritage to life. Highlights include Sirna Kala, a ceremonial Javanese dance inspired by Loro Blonyo, the symbol of harmony and prosperity; Acaraki - The Art of Aksara, an introduction to Javanese calligraphy; and Aniwayang - Desa Timun, an interactive introduction to wayang kulit shadow puppetry. Programmes take place at the Flower Field Hall and South American Garden.
