滨海湾花园 West Lawn, the 西草坪 beside Active Garden, is a 3,500 square metre grass field a five-minute walk from Bayfront MRT. From Friday 18 December 2026 it holds The Story of Studio Ghibli, 吉卜力工作室物语, a walk-through of 12 film scenes that stays until Sunday 4 July 2027. 18 December is a VIP opening. Public entry starts 19 December. Gardens by the Bay's calendar and the organiser's English and 华文 sites both list 10am to 7pm daily.
The lawn the hall is sitting on
West Lawn is the event field next to Active Garden, not the kite roof at Marina Barrage and not the meadow under the Supertrees. Gardens by the Bay books it for 1,800 people standing. The same 3,500 square metres is the footprint CNA and the official calendar give for this exhibition, so the grass you can still walk onto in October is the hall. A timber community stage already sits on one edge, with Pan Pacific over the trees. That is the Bayfront side of the gardens, closer to the MRT than Flower Dome.
Active Garden next door stays on its usual hours, 5am to 2am, no ticket. The playground, outdoor gym and musical instruments keep running. The organiser's FAQ bans pets inside the exhibition. Active Garden itself still allows them. If you came for the lawn and a dog, the gym and the waterfront path remain. The hall does not.
What is inside, and who is putting it up
Gardens by the Bay's event page is short on plot and clear on geography. Twelve scenes. About 60 to 75 minutes if you keep walking, with no hard cap once you are in. Named rooms include the rain-soaked bus stop from My Neighbor Totoro, 龙猫, and an eight-metre bathhouse from Spirited Away, 千与千寻. The organiser site adds Kamaji's boiler room and the wooden door of the Guchokipanya bakery from Kiki's Delivery Service, 魔女宅急便. CNA also lists Nausicaa, 风之谷, Howl's Moving Castle, 哈尔的移动城堡, Princess Mononoke, 幽灵公主, and The Boy and the Heron, 你想活出怎样的人生.
M Experience and Tsukuru are producing it, with Singapore Tourism Board support. M Experience's Sean Lim, in the CNA write-up of the 12 September announcement, called the 12 rooms a way to step into the stories rather than look at production stills. I am not repeating the world-premiere line that went out the same week. A later M Experience note on PR Newswire said the show opened first in Shanghai, with Singapore as the Southeast Asia debut and the largest edition so far. CNA went with largest to date. That is the version I am using.
Tickets, the VIP night, the 11am mismatch
Klook is the official seller. Gardens by the Bay does not sell this on its own ticketing stack. Citizen and PR adult tickets are S$39. Concession is S$29 for children aged 3 to 12 and seniors aged 65 and above. Standard off-peak is S$49 adult and S$43 concession. Peak is S$55 adult and S$49 concession. Children aged 2 and under enter free. CNA, the organiser site, and the Chinese press release agree on those bands. AsiaOne quoted only the peak tourist adult price. Check the date you pick on Klook if you are not a citizen or PR.
Each adult ticket bought by 17 December comes with a limited gift, while stocks last. The organiser site also sells a No-Face fortune-coin add-on online only. A limited door sale may exist if the hall is not full. Timed entry is the plan. Arrive 10 to 15 minutes early. Late entry is not guaranteed.
Hours: the Gardens calendar and storyofstudioghibli.com, English and 华文, say 10am to 7pm. The Chinese PR Newswire note from M Experience listed 11am to 7pm. Until Klook or the calendar moves, I would plan for 10am.
Walk in from Bayfront, skip the conservatory loop
Bayfront MRT, CE1 and DT16, Exit B, is the useful station. The sheltered link spits you out toward the gardens. West Lawn is on the Bayfront Plaza side, not the Flower Dome queue. The venue page puts it about five minutes from the station and about ten from the conservatories. Shuttle buses loop Bayfront Plaza, Active Garden and Flower Dome at about ten-minute intervals if you would rather not walk in the heat. From Marina Bay Sands, Dragonfly Bridge is the short outdoor cut, five to ten minutes on the organiser's own directions.
Outdoor gardens around the hall stay 5am to 2am. You can still do Garden Rhapsody at 7.45pm and 8.45pm at Supertree Grove after an afternoon inside, as long as the grove is not later boxed off for a ticketed Christmas event. That Christmas night market is not on the 2026 official calendar as of mid-October. Satay by the Bay on this waterfront is already closed. Jurassic Nest Food Hall is the indoor fallback. The organiser says food trucks will sit near the hall, with no outside food brought in.
